It certainly has been awhile since I've last written in here. I haven't really given any time to myself lately. Actually, I have been giving myself more time, and I'm enjoying it. Although I do miss Cali, my home, my friends, my family, but there's things in life that you have to try, live and fight for. A dream is knocking on the door. Will you answer it or will you ignore it? Of course you would want to answer it, but unfortunately, it's not as simple as a knock on the door. You have to work hard, work harder. You have to earn it, earn respect from others that you belong there. And most importantly, you have to be confident, be Mr. Swag-off-the-charts!!
So far, I've been practicing with professional Philippines Basketball Association (PBA) team Barangay Ginebra Kings. At first, I didn't really know what to expect. The first day, I was involved in drills that had me guarding good players, for example, JayJay Helterbrand, Mark Caguiao, and Mike Cortez. Those guys, I didn't really know much about until a started to hang out around them more and more. They are all really cool guys, and that goes for the rest of the team, coaching staff, staff included. But what I want now is to be respected, and battling is what I have to do to rightfully earn respect.
The first half of the season, there was a rough patch. There was work needed to be done. There needed to be a commitment from the team, a sense of knowing each others role. They needed to play as a team to win as a team, and if they lost as a team, collectively they would lose, but losing made the team better. It was an obstacle. The team was good! Most of the teams they lost to, it was because of the mistakes they did to themselves. Not taking care of the ball, not executing, not sharing, that's how they lost. But they ended the season on a good note, tied for 4th with Rain or Shine at 9 wins and 5 loses and also with a 4-game win streak coming in to the playoffs. And who is there first round match up? None other than Rain or Shine in a best of three series. It's not going to be a walk in the park match up, but who says anything is going to be easy without putting in work?
That's where I want my level of game to be. Better yet beyond, so I can be labeled as one of the greats. And it all starts with hard work and dedication.
Happy Holidays to all my friends and family back home.
